Great Spanish food at Dani Garcia's Manzanilla

Picture from Manzanilla Restaurant Facebook site

Very excited to hear about Dani Garcia opening Manzanilla in NYC. I’ve really enjoyed his high-end tasting menu at Calima and his fun yet fancy tapas many times at La Moraga in Spain. Judging from the menu, Manzanilla seems more along La Moraga lines, with great casual Andalusian-inspired dishes. Love this striking picture from Manzanilla’s Facebook page of the cool front entrance wall with inspiring foods and places from southern Spain….coquinas, espeto, chopitos….my favorite southern things! Can’t wait to try it!

Calima was an exquisite experience, an unending procession of small dishes, each arranged artistically, some prepared table-side. The setting and service all lived up to the price point. Some of the creative combinations were amazing, some components were exquisite individually but for me they didn’t work perfectly together, some were downright odd. One of the most impressive, interesting, and memorable meals I had in Spain, but not necessarily one of my favorites. On the other hand, I have had many favorite moments at La Moraga, Garcia’s tapas restaurant concept. At La Moraga the menu is always changing, so I can’t always count on my favorite lobster salad or creative mini-hamburger being there the next time, but I always know I will find something unique and creative yet also comforting and delicious. Check out my review of La Moraga…what you should try and not…if you are in the Malaga or Marbella area, you must try it out! Let me know what you think of any of Garcia’s places!
